Description
In accordance with the main idea of the exhibit, during the opening night, the two colored stripes at each end of the canvas were painted white on the front side, one by Michel Claura and the other by Rinaldo Bianda.
Letter from Daniel Buren to Stefano Dabbeni, Lugano, (September or October) 1997:
“At the time of the December 16, 1967 show, [organized] by Edizioni Flaviana, Locarno, [at International Arts Club] in Lugano, “Buren o Toroni o Chichessia” (Buren or Toroni or Whoever), the art critic Michel Claura painted, before the public, one half of this piece (right or left hand stripe) and M. Bianda the other.
The inscription written in red on the portion of the canvas attached to the frame must be by Michel Claura and M. Bianda. It is thus, as the catalogue of the exhibit indicated, a work signed on the back by two people. I can not make any advertisement (certificate) because I am not the author of this work. On the other hand, this note certifies that this painting was indeed created by the co-signers indicated above and that I was the consenting eye witness.
This letter authenticates the history of the work in question.
Daniel Buren”
