Description

Filming by Gerry Schum, of the progressive covering up - without authorization - by Daniel Buren of a publicity billboard at the corner of Kirchfeld Street and Cornelium Street with stripes of white and blue striped paper, each more or less 55 by 75 cm.

Organizing principle: after each new strip of paper was pasted up, the whole billboard was videotaped in a fixed position for 10 seconds. This continued until the whole billboard had been covered up.

45 strips of paper were used; the length of the video cassette then is 45 times 10 seconds.

The idea of this video, "Coverring up - disappearance", conceived for Gerry Schum, was repeated three times, in Dusseldorf (1971), in Venice (1972) and in Florence with Art/Tapes/22 (1974).
